My approach to patient care is patient-centered and focused on building a strong health-focused relationship. I listen carefully to patients' concerns, understand their medical context, and involve them in shared decision-making. By using clinical guidelines with individualized care, I want to provide comprehensive management of both acute and chronic conditions while emphasizing prevention, patient education, and continuity of care. My goal is to treat not only the disease but the whole person, promoting long-term health and trust in the patient-physician relationship.

Karla M. Pena is a board-certified Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner with more than 8 years of emergency nursing experience at a Level I Trauma Center. She earned her Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Texas at Arlington, her BSN from Texas Tech University, and her ADN from El Centro College.
Karla has served as an emergency department charge nurse at Methodist Dallas Medical Center, where she has led clinical care during trauma resuscitations and mentored nursing staff. Her clinical training includes medical intensive care, hepatology, gastroenterology, and neurosurgery.
A two-time DAISY Award recipient and Clinical Nurse of the Year (2023–2024), Karla brings expertise in acute care management, advanced patient assessment, and interdisciplinary collaboration. She is fluent in English and Spanish.
